Napa State Hospital Patient Kills Worker

A patient at Napa State Hospital was arrested Sunday for the murder of a medical worker. The 54-year-old victim was found dead Saturday night in the hospital’s courtyard after her dinner break. She was an employee of the hospital for 14 years.

Effort Begun to Mark Graves of the Forgotten

At Westborough State Hospital, from 1921 to 1990, the hospital buried patients who died in its care, and whose families were absent, in graves that are unmarked and anonymous. The state Department of Mental Health will work with the town and any volunteers to see that the graves are properly memorialized.

US Sorry Over Deliberate Sex Infections in Guatemala

Evidence recently unearthed by Prof Susan Reverby at Wellesley College states that the United States government deliberately infected hundreds of people in Guatemala with gonorrhea and syphilis as part of medical tests more than 60 years ago to test vaccines against venereal diseases. Many of the infected were mentally ill patients and prisoners – none of whom gave their consent.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has condemned the research as unethical and reprehensible stating, “We deeply regret that it happened, and we apologize to all the individuals who were affected by such abhorrent research practices.”

Photographer Captures Breathtaking Beauty of City, Suburban Buildings

Tony Lafferty, 47, a photographer, will display his work at the Wolcott Mill Historic Center for the month of October with photographs taken at Wolcott and Comerica Park, as well as urban exploration pictures taken in various buildings and locations in metro Detroit.
