Norristown State Hospital Funding Stolen

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announced the arrest of Thomas Lee Wicker of Pottstown for allegedly stealing more than $22,600 while serving as a union president from November 2007 through November 2009 when Wicker was president of AFSCME Local 2348, a local union chartered to represent bargaining unit employees at Norristown State Hospital.

Wicker faces 15 charges, including theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. He was released on $100,000 bail. A preliminary hearing has been set at 11:45 AM on February 9th before District Justice Ester Casillo.

State Police to Respond to Danville State Hospital

Incidents at Danville State Hospital will no longer be the responsibility of Mahoning Township police, which was the only police department in Pennsylvania in charge of responding to a state-owned facility. From now on, the Pennsylvania State police will be responding to all calls.

Human Remains Found At Eastern State Hospital

Twenty to thirty human remains have been found at the Eastern State Hospital site in Lexington where the new Bluegrass Community and Technical College will be built.

The land is currently owned by the state Finance Cabinet, and they are waiting on a permit from the coroner before they can move the bodies. They are also bringing in archaeologists to examine the bodies.

Birthday Tribute in Memory of Jim Smith

Urban explorer Jim Smith who died in Thailand last year from a fall has been remembered on what would have been his 31st birthday.

Friends and family gathered at Middlesbrough Pub and a plaque was unveiled by pub owner Andy Robinson at the spot where Jim used to stand at the bar.

Northern State Hospital is for Sale

Northern State Hospital is for sale! Built in 1909 and operated until 1973, it is now assessed at seventeen million dollars and was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Several core buildings are Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and the landscape was designed by the Olmsted Brothers.
