Man Pleads Guilty in Norwich Arson

Steven Lamotte, 23, was charged Tuesday with third-degree arson for a fire he set to the Norwich administration building on August 11, 2007. Lamotte soaked crumpled paper with gasoline and lit it on fire. State prosecutors have recommended a sentencing of three years in prison followed by three years probation.

Fire at Henryton

Around 8:00 PM on Thursday, a fire erupted through the roof of the Staff House at Henryton State Hospital. Approximately 50 firefighters from Carroll, Frederick, Howard and Baltimore counties battled the one-alarm blaze.

More Remains Found at Eastern

Archaeologists have removed one-hundred sets of human remains from the grounds of Eastern State Hospital; double the amount expected. The remains are being sent to the University of Kentucky’s Laboratory of Archaeological Research to be processed and examined.

Admissions Building Could Close

The Admissions building – in which criminal defendants’ mental competency to stand trial is determined – could face closure next January at Washington Western State Hospital if lawmakers approve a proposal to shift responsibility for competency evaluations to jails and other local facilities.

No Deal for Reale

Residents overwhelmingly said no to Reale’s proposal to develop Norwich by a two-thirds majority vote. The town’s redevelopment agency now plans to open up the process on June 15 when it will seek formal requests for proposals to develop the property from other interested developers.

Student’s Yard Sale Helps State Hospital

Patrinia Bolden of Tupelo, Mississippi earned nearly six-hundred-dollars at her yard sale in Fair Park to benefit the North Mississippi State Hospital after several months of placing flyers throughout Tupelo to obtain items for the yard sale and monetary donations.
